Daggett
is King of Michigan for the Third Time
From
Marie Osborn:
On
Friday, Dustin Daggett stole the King of Michigan
crown for the third time. In the event, sanctioned
by Sprints on Dirt, Daggett became the first three-time
winner of the annual event at Hartford Speedway
Park. Daggett took the lead from Tim Norman and
held off challenges from Brett Mann and Darren Long
to take home the $3,000 first prize.
"This
crown is as awesome as the first two," said
Daggett. "The car was starting to overheat
towards the end, and I was getting a little worried.
The car was perfect though, and I was glad that
I could hold off (Long and Mann)."
Driving
the Daggett Racing/Dowker Motors/Maxim Chassis,
Daggett was the 2003 Sprints On Dirt points Champion,
and hopes to repeat as such this season. Along with
the victory, Daggett was able to stretch his lead
in the championship point standings to 146 points
over Ohio native and NRA regular, J.R. Stewart.
The
next challenge for Daggett is a two-day swing with
Sprints on Dirt starting in Daggett's backyard at
Ionia Raceway Park on Friday. Daggett has always
been strong at Ionia, and hopes to continue that
trend this weekend. The second day of the weekend
will find Daggett Racing at the Owendale Speedway
in eastern Michigan. During SOD's last trip to Ionia,
Daggett scored a fourth place finish and hopes to
improve during this visit. Owendale has been tricky
as well with Daggett looking to score his first
SOD victory at the facility.
