Daggett
Wins Two North of the Border; Thunderbird Speedway

From
Marie Osborn: PORTLAND, Mich. - Defending his 2003
Sprints On Dirt championship, Dustin Daggett followed
the SOD group across the border for a weekend of
racing in Canada.
On
Friday, the drivers of the SOD group towed over
to the Oshweken Speedway, a beautiful clay track
that is typically one of the longer tows for the
group. After taking fourth in his heat race, Daggett
was primed and ready for the feature event. After
a hard-fought battle, Daggett was able to get the
lead from track owner, Glen Styres. Maintaining
the lead through two cautions and a red flag, Daggett
was able to hold on for the feature win.
"As
usual, my Dowker Engines Maxim chassis was awesome.
These guys give me a great car week in and week
out," stated Daggett from his Portland, Michigan
race shop.
Saturday
afternoon saw the Daggett Racing team pull into
the South Buxton International Raceway. The track,
which is usually very tacky, threw all of the teams
for a loop when it became dry-slick. The SOD teams
are always a big hit with the fans in Canada.
The
new owners of South Buxton have worked hard on the
track, and it proved to be fruitful once again for
Daggett. Daggett won his heat beating Darren Long
and Tim Allison, just to name a couple.
Dustin's
uncle, Tom Daggett, has been the team member handling
the pill draw for Dustin, and his good luck paid
off by drawing to put Dustin in the front row. Daggett
started on the outside of the front row, and never
looked back. Daggett had to contend with all sorts
of lapped traffic on lap three.
Heading
to Thunderbird Speedway on Saturday, Daggett is
looking to make it three victories in a row with
the Sprints On Dirt group.
"At
Thunderbird, the key to finishing well is to get
a good draw. Tom has been drawing good for us, so
hopefully that will continue. The track is small
and narrow, but we will try to use that to our advantage."
Daggett
is looking to use the next few races to pad his
points lead. "JR Stewart is scheduled to miss
the next couple of SOD shows, and Nick (Mulheim,
a rookie from Ohio) is the third guy in points.
We want to really use the next several shows to
give ourselves a bigger cushion."
